My guess would be he asked for more money than Dana was willing to pay him. Although personally "I" feel like Duffee was a bum, but anyways...

Anyway, do you guys want to start our own team?? I am sure one of us is savvy enough to be captain and set it up. Theres only a few of us, so we would probably be in the Lightweights but I thought the discussion has been pretty good around here when fights come up that we could do OK

Let me know what you think, Brutus already makes picks regularly and so do I. it makes watching the fights just a little more fun. It takes into account Bets and Winning Percentage. This has been my worst season to date and looking to start fresh next season

Waht do you guys say??

LAS VEGAS – The distinguished Oxford University debate club has featured such speakers as Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and Malcolm X.
This time the British club will have a different sort of speaker — the president of Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The mixed-martial arts group told The Associated Press that the 187-year-old Oxford Union Society has invited Dana White to speak Oct. 13. White says he expects tough questions, and will give straight answers.
The society is known for its ties to the upper tiers of politics. Past speakers include former U.S. presidents Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. The late Benazir Bhutto was once club president when she was a student, long before she became prime minister of Pakistan.
By Mitch Ciccarelli (Analyst) on August 23, 2010

Since purchasing the assets of Pro Elite in 2009, Strikeforce has evolved from a highly successful regional promotion into a national MMA brand on the rise.

Some would argue that the California-based promotion is already a force to be reckoned with in the mixed martial arts industry, while others believe the promotion’s simple mistakes will cause them to ultimately crumble and fail.

If one were to compare the MMA industry to that of the animal kingdom, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is at the very top of the food chain.

Dana White and the Fertittas are the unstoppable lions and at this point it doesn’t look like any competing carnivores will be able to surpass the level of dominance that Zuffa LLC has established.

However—while they certainly shouldn’t focus on competing with the UFC—there are methods that Strikeforce can utilize that over time could potentially make them a lethal competitor.

With that said, here are 10 things that Strikeforce must do in order to accomplish that.
Top 10 Fighters That Need To Go Away
By Andrew Gladstone

In the sport of MMA, there are fighters who rise to the top and there are fighters who fall to the bottom.

There are some fighters who refuse to leave the sport or improve as a fighter despite either a lack of talent, the game passing them by, or refusing to get into top condition.

In writing this slideshow, I realize that I will anger fighters and maybe some fans, but I respect all of the fighters I've mentioned for even getting into the cage and risking injury.

These are the top 10 fighters who need to go away.

So this is something i know everyone has discussed at one point... but i don't think i've seen a thread and reasons behind the conversation in detail - so here we go.

What styles of fights do you fellas enjoy the most too watch? Whether it be the classic sprawl and brawler v a ground wizard - two strikers in a technical war on the feet... or, two high level grapplers?

Machida v Shogun 1 is one of my more enjoyed fights of late. Beside the result - that was a war with two completely different striking styles trying to penetrate the others defenses that made for a really cool and intrigueing match up.

Diego Sanchez v Nick Diaz. A ground war that was non-stop from the opening bell with two high level grapplers trying get their games going. Some sick transitions ALL fight.

Just a few examples of mine... what do you guys like in this topic?

Favorite 3 MMA fights of ALL TIME. Not just UFC or PRIDE, etc....ALL TIME and why?

1. Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg2
Frank talked all that **** on Matt and even though I dont like Matt, Matt didnt talk too much **** and Frank was tapped the 1st fight, only to come back and talk even more ****. The moment when Matt picked him up and ran him across the ring, I dont think the crowd has ever went that crazy.

2. Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz1
Tito dodged Chuck for quite some time and it wasnt until Tito HAD to fight Chuck, that Chuck finally proved to Tito and the rest of the world that he was the best LHW in the UFC.

3. Lyoto Machida vs. Rashad Evans
Lyoto showed the world that wrestling alone will not keep a belt around your waist. I knew that Rashad wouldnt hold the belt long with Lyoto and Shogun in the game, but Lyoto basically picked Rashad apart and for once, I didnt have to hear Rashad wife screaming in the background.

MMA Top 10 Pound-for-Pound: Anderson Silva Slips

There's another change at the top of my pound-for-pound rankings.

A month ago I dropped Fedor Emelianenko from the top of the list to all the way off the list following his loss to Fabricio Werdum. When Fedor dropped out I moved Anderson Silva to the top. But on Saturday night we watched the worst performance of Anderson Silva's UFC career, and although Silva pulled off a brilliant submission to win the fight, he struggled enough through the first four and a half rounds that he deserves to drop in the rankings.

Find out who's No. 1 now, and how far Silva fell, below.

MMA Top 10 Pound for pound
(Number in parentheses is the fighter's rank in the last pound-for-pound list)

1. Georges St. Pierre (2): GSP seems close to cleaning out the welterweight division, to the point where we're going to wonder if there are any interesting fights left for him. Then again, that was the case for Silva, too. Josh Koscheck is a legitimate threat to St. Pierre, even as he's also a major underdog.

2. Jose Aldo (3): At age 23, Aldo is the youngest fighter on this list, and it's exciting to think about how much he can accomplish in MMA. Up next is a featherweight title defense against Manny Gamburyan at WEC 51 in September.

3. Anderson Silva (1): At age 35, Silva is the oldest fighter on this list. It's incredible that he's managed to win his first 12 UFC fights, and he may still have plenty more wins left in him. But make no mistake, he's on the down side of his brilliant career.

4. Shogun Rua (4): The biggest question about Rua is how long his knees can hold up. Rua is the champion of the UFC's marquee weight class and is a good enough fighter to be the first light heavyweight champion since Chuck Liddell to go on a sustained run of dominance over the division. But longevity questions will linger over any athlete who has multiple knee injuries.

5. Frank Edgar (5): Edgar's victory over B.J. Penn in April was viewed by many as either a result of Penn showing up out of shape or Edgar benefiting from bad judging -- or just a fluke. But the closer we get to their rematch at UFC 118, the more I think Edgar has the right style to keep the fight standing and win another decision.

6. Dominick Cruz (6): The 15-1 Cruz is probably a little bit underappreciated because he wins so many of his fights by decision, but I for one am thrilled about his WEC bantamweight title defense against Joseph Benavidez next week. That's one of the best fights of the year.

7. Lyoto Machida (7): Although the UFC hasn't officially announced it, all indications are that Machida's next fight will be against Rampage Jackson in November. That's a fight Machida should win going away; Rampage's style is tailor made for Machida to pick him apart.

8. Rashad Evans (8): I'd like to see Evans be a little more active, but he's planning to wait around for as long as it takes for Shogun to get healthy. When it happens, likely in early 2011, the fight will be worth the wait.

9. Joseph Benavidez (9): I still think it's long past time for the WEC to launch a flyweight division, and for Benavidez to start cutting down to 125 pounds, a weight class at which I think he'd be the best fighter in the world. As it stands, he has an opportunity to prove himself as the best fighter in the world at 135 pounds against Cruz.

10. B.J. Penn (10): We'll find out a lot about Penn when he gets his rematch against Edgar later this month. Does he come back in great shape and with a great game plan? Or are there going to be renewed questions about his dedication? I expect to see Penn looking better than he did in their first fight in April -- but I think Edgar will look better, too.
Taking blows to the head and pounding an opponent into unconsciousness.
From fighting techniques to legal troubles, some of the world's best fighters fuel their aggression to higher levels.
As leagues such as UFC increase in popularity and Pay Per View continues to dish out events, mixed-martial arts becomes more relevant to pop culture.
Then in the post fight interview to say "I dont have ill will towards Anderson and I dont wish him a bad life, but heres the truth..... if the commisioner would sanction it and Dana would move, I would fight him right now"
LOL, after you lose, you still trash talk??? I seriously think he either has a mental illness or he's trying to sell himself to be a FAR better fighter than he is. I'll go with both.
Thats bold words for someone with a record of 24-11, and someone who took an 0-3 lesson to learn, that he just cant beat Jeremy Horn. Anyways Chael should watch his mouth because he wants no part of 205.

You almost made me cry Anderson when you pulled off that submission win over Sonnen. Made me cry of happiness of course. I know Sonnen is a good fighter but I never expected him to be that great in this fight. Aside from the rib injury that Anderson said during the interview, I noticed that he is not that well conditioned. He looked like he has lost so much weight and a bit slow in the octagon.
I have watched all his fights in the UFC and that is the first time I saw him that thin. Probably the reason on why Chael can easily take him down. During the 5th round i thought it was all over. I can see Chael raising his hands with the belt. Chael was winning all four rounds until Anderson made that triangle move that turned into an armbar..

You pulled it off Mr.Anderson, you pulled it well. And for that you earned a lot of respect from your fans and you made new fans too.

I just hope that there would be a part two of this fight. And I think that if Silva is well conditioned, it would be a different fight. More likely the outcome will be the same, but the process would be far more different than the last one.

Peace

By Ken Beckett

Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen at UFC 117 in Oakland, California was one of the most anticipated and hyped up middleweight title matches in MMA history.

A large part of that was due to the trash talk of the challenger Chael Sonnen.

While no one knew if he could beat Silva inside the octagon, there was no doubt about it, Sonnen was the undisputed champion of trash talking.

The question became could Sonnen back up his words.

At the weigh-ins, Sonnen said that everyone was witness to Anderson Silva's pre-retirement party. And in the build up to the fight, he said that he would have Silva on his back more than "a hooker with a mortgage."

When all the introductions were over and it was time to fight, that's exactly what the former University of Oregon Division One All-American wrestler did.

Sonnen brutalized Silva with vicious strikes and a dominating ground game. For four rounds, Sonnen controlled the fight both standing and down on the mat. Giving Silva the biggest challenge of his career.

Towards the end of the fourth round, it looked as if Silva might be slowly but surely making his way back into the fight. He landed some vicious elbows on Sonnen from his back that cut the challenger open above his left eyebrow. At the start of the fifth round, Silva was smiling and dancing while Sonnen looked pretty beat up.

Sonnen was winning the contest four rounds to none. Silva needed to knock out his opponent or make him tap to retain the title.

The fifth round began as the previous four did. With Sonnen charging at Silva and swinging wildly before the fight was ultimately brought to the mat with Sonnen using his dominating wrestling skills.

Sonnen applied the pressure some more and it looked like he would be well on his way to doing what he said he would do for months.

But then it all went terribly wrong for Sonnen. While swinging away wildly from the top position, the Brazilian jiu-jitzu expert Silva, caught Sonnen in a triangle choke and forced him to tap.

At first there was some controversy when referee Josh Rosenthal stopped the fight. It was unclear by the live video if Sonnen had tapped. Replays showed however that he did indeep tap out and that Rosenthal made the right call.

Silva's hand was raised in victory, as he successfully defended his middleweight title for the eight straight time. He also extended his undefeated streak to an impressive 13 fights.

As for Sonnen, the early talk is that with the most dominating performance by any MMA fighter against Anderson Silva, he deserves an instant rematch. Sonnen was asked about that after the fight but would not speculate on what should come next.

"I came in second," said Sonnen, "There's nothing I can say. They gave me my opportunity, and I came up short. I'm only here to be number one. If I'm not the best, I'll move on in life. For now, I have the silver medal."

After UFC 117, in an interview with MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani, UFC President Dana White said that a possible rematch would all come down to timing.

"I believe that as a promoter, my job is to give the fans the fight they want to see," White said. "Now there's a couple fights. Timing has a lot to do with it too. Anderson just went to the hospital, he's been in a five round war. Chael is all busted up too. Vitor Belfort is now in the mix. He's recovered, healthy, and ready to fight. So we'll see how this thing plays out and see what happens."

What do you think B/R MMA fans? Does Sonnen deserve a rematch? Or is there another middleweight more deserving of a title shot? Vote in our poll and leave your comments down
